In an exclusive in-depth investigation, TNI and Corporate Europe Observatory have uncovered a secretive elite club of lawyers riding an international litigation boom which benefits multinationals at the expense of taxpayers, the environment and human rights. For example, India has recently experienced a wave of investor-state claims challenging its domestic policies, legislation and court decisions in a number of sectors from telecom, taxation to coal prices. The report argues that governments should terminate existing agreements and refuse to sign new investment treaties, or at the very least, exclude clauses that allow companies to sue the state.
